Expressive Hand Paintings

I have wanted to expand my neatly drawn and written work into something with more expression and emotion. I used my hands to be more involved in my work, and let my subconscious control my hands freely on the paper. These are two A1 pieces using quotes from other people that I chose because I either relate well to them or they resonate with me emotionally. I chose colours that came to the mind whilst reciting the text.

‘There is joy in being sad’ – process of painting.

Here I used my fingers to blend some of the background into the text, letting it be less clear and messy – contradicting the positivity of the words.

‘It’s sad but i’m not going to cry about it.’

Blue represents the sadness of the subject, markings from my finger tips and hands making expressive texture and emotion.
